One of the more overlooked pieces of the Japanese director's filmography, Dreams is an empassioned art project from the master; complete with vivid colors and surrealistic elements, Kurosawa brings no holds barred with the social commentary in one of his final films.
Matt Reeves' The Batman is a moody neo-noir detective story, with Robert Pattinson's iteration of The Dark Knight bringing an emotional nuance to the character. As the cryptic Riddler seeks to root out corruption in Gotham City by killing those who perpetrate it, the vigilante confronts his identity and purpose in fighting for his city. Grounded but fantastical in approaching the Batman mythos, the film is easily one of the most well-crafted superhero films ever.
